The Rancho Tierra Grande (RTG) is in a Wildfire Danger Area for both personal safety and property damage risks.  The Fire Safety Committee (FSC) is a group of RTG volunteer residents who are working together to:

  • Help each resident make their house more fire safe
  • Coordinate wildfire planning and response with local and state agencies
  • Aid evacuation during an actual wildfire

RTG Fire Safety Plan

The plan involves several components:

  • Firewise – RTG has now received Firewise certification. This must be renewed each year by reporting the continued maintenance and improvement of each home site.
  • Fire Fuel Mitigation – The FSC works with Monterey County, Cal Fire, and MCRFD to assist with fuel mitigation in common areas. It asks that each homeowner take responsibility for providing a fuel break of at least 100 ft. on their property. This is the best way to save a home!
  • Neighborhood Captains – The FSC has divided each neighborhood into sixteen Divisions and created two evacuation routes. There are thirty volunteer Captains help inform their Division neighbors about fire risk mitigation and direct an evacuation effort if it should occur.
  • Partnerships – The FSC is working with PG&E, CAL Fire, MCRFD, Monterey County, Monterey Sherriff, and other stakeholders to bring all resources to bear on awareness and response planning.
  • Training –The FSC performs neighborhood evacuation drills, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, home preparedness, and other emergency response and preparedness training.
  • Awareness – The FSC will keep residents aware of any important updates about prevention and will provide alerts during an active fire.
